Girl Child Rights (GCR) is a not for profit independent organization dedicated to improve the condition of the girl child through high impact and in-depth multidisciplinary interventions and projects. GCR is a legally registered organization under the Mozambican laws with a national mandate (Registration Number: 1035/2008). GCR envisions a world where girls have larger freedom of choice, expression and movement. GCR’s mission is improving the girl child’s situation through knowledge and empowerment. GCR has, as its top priority, Girl Child Education. Child Protection, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Youth Development are other key areas of focus.
GCR’s strategic pillars are Girl Child Education, Child Protection, HIV/AIDS Prevention and Youth Empowerment. Gender Equality is a cross-cutting theme. The world is ever evolving, as GCR we continuosly conduct research on various issues related to our thematic areas so as to inform our current and future interventions.
GCR was founded by development practitioners from Mozambique and Zimbabwe. These practitioners met regularly in Mutare (Zimbabwe) and Chimoio (Mozambique) where an ideal organization, that is at the scientific waterfront of advising policy directions and project implementation for the advancement of the girl child condition in regions bedeviled by violation her rights was conceived.
Our Target Area
Mozambique is the first county of work and GCR will span in the region and beyond. GCR is headquartered in Chimoio and it works in Zambezia and Manica provinces.
